My Truths #22 (gluten free)

Gluten free does not mean low carb. Foods that are gluten free are often thought to be low carb because they don’t have wheat flour in them but these foods often contain other ingredients that are just as high (if not higher) in carbohydrates. Watch for rice or coconut flour. Although these flours are preferable to wheat flour (especially for those with wheat intolerance) they are not particularly low carb. Sweeteners are the real bad boys to look out for in gluten free foods.  Sugar, honey, agave  and other forms of glucose/fructose are high in carbohydrates and should be avoided.
